NIAS- Nothern Inland Academy of Sport

The Northern Inland Academy of Sport (NIAS) is an incorporated, autonomous, community based organization established in November 1992 to identify and prepare talented sportspeople in the Northern Inland region to reach their maximum potential, on and off the field!

Nominations now open for 2010 Tennis, Touch, Cycling and Swimming programs (4-Feb-10)

Program nominations are now open for the Inland Technology Tennis squad, Tamworth Services Club Touch Squad, Metroll Tamworth Cycling squad and the Calala Inn Swimming squads. All program information, eligibility and benefits offered can be obtained on the NIAS web site www.nias.org.au Online applications can be completed on the site and will stay open until the 28th February 2010.

Nominations for new Golf Program still available

Nominations for the new NIAS Golf program will stay open until next Friday the 12th February. With the great news that the Tamworth Golf Club will now also partner NIAS with this program it has been decided to keep applications open for one more week. Some confusion about what athletes would receive has now been sorted out and any male players with single figure handicaps or females with 15 or less are encouraged to put a nomination in. Netball and Hockey both in Tamworth this weekend

Carlo’s IGA and Armidale City Bowling Club Netball Squad will commence their skill program for the year this Sunday the 7th of February in Tamworth. Like many of the other NIAS squads Head Coach Rochelle Joyce will look to get the cobwebs out after Summer Holidays and get down to business. Sunday will see the girls basically having a long morning of Fitness and Skill based drills. The squad will also attend a class at Club Synergy and get an introduction to strength and conditioning on the gym floor. Club Synergy have built a relationship with NIAS as an official training facility.

Times: Start 9:30- 11:30, Club Synergy from 12-3pm

The Wests Hockey Squads will back up after last weekend’s effort in Armidale. Both Boys and Girls squads will, like Netball train on Sunday out at the Tamworth Hockey Centre. The weekend of the 30th-31st saw many existing and former in Sydney to trial for the U18 NSW Hockey Squads.  Kyle Eichorn, Jake Hathway and Ben Merrick were selected in the boys squad and Lauren Chew, Emma Clifton and Georgina Morgan selected into the girls squad.

Football Front

Armidale City Bowling Club Girls Football Squad will also undertake there first training for the year. Head Coach Rob Clarke will meet the girls at Sport UNE where he will put them through a short sharp training session. It’s great to have such experience in Rob who is looking after Football in Northern NSW. Special mention must go to the Assistant coach Kelly Archibald who has just made the Australian Vikings 19’s Girls Squad to tour America in November 2010.
