Program nominations for the Tamworth Services Club Touch Squad, Metroll Tamworth Cycling squad and the Calala Inn Swimming squads will now close on the 12th March 2010. Netball Camp in Armidale: last hit out before Academy Games

After their recent training at Farrer with the NIAS rugby boys the girls should be tougher than ever. The Armidale City Bowling Club/Carlos IGA NIAS Netball squad will train in a 2 day camp in Armidale at Sport UNE, using the indoor facilities of Campbell Hall this weekend. The older tier 1 squad are athletes aged 16-18 will compete in the ClubsNSW Academy games early next month when NIAS hosts the event in Armidale. The younger tier 2 squad will have to wait til later in the year when they will head to Sydney for a 15’s Development tournament.

NIAS Hockey to Take on UTS in trial

West boys and Girls Hockey Squads will also have a two day camp this weekend which will incorporate a trial game against the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) on Saturday evening. Throughout Saturday the Athletes will train up till the game and then follow up with another morning session on Sunday. Head coaches believe this will be a  good challenge for the athletes who in a month’s time will compete in the ClubsNSW Academy Games in Armidale. With only one final training between this weekend and the games the coaches are looking to use their time wisely.
UTS and NIAS have developed a healthy partnership over the years as some ex NIAS athletes head to Sydney UTS. This has lead to a scholarship being established between UTS and NIAS, of which in 2009 there were a male and female scholarship were offered.
