NIAS- Nothern Inland Academy of Sport

The Northern Inland Academy of Sport (NIAS) is an incorporated, autonomous, community based organization established in November 1992 to identify and prepare talented sportspeople in the Northern Inland region to reach their maximum potential, on and off the field!

AWD will return as a program in NIAS for 2010. (9-Mar-10)

Over the last year NIAS has heavily promoted the Lonestar Athlete with a Disability Program in order to assist athletes within their respective sports. NIAS is proud to announce that this week they will offer 6 places into the 2010 AWD program, including two officials who have been involved in sport in various capacities for a number of years. This year the  Narrabri RSL and their associated Sporting committees have come on board to partner NIAS with this program to financially assist and support disabled athletes with the Northern Inland region.

“With 3 recipients from Tamworth, 2 from Armidale and 1 from Moree, it is great to have a good spread throughout the region but we would ideally like to support more athletes, especially from the Narrabri area. There are still scholarship positions available for the Lonestar AWD program and with all the support from the Narrabri RSL it seems only fitting to attract some local Narrabri athletes. So if you are aware of anyone who this may relate to please advise the Northern Inland Academy of Sport on 6766 2526 or Paul Gordon at the Narrabri RSL.” Commented NIAS Executive Officer Peter Annis-Brown in announcing the athletes so far invited into the program.

The 8 recipients invited to take up a scholarship are; Will Brunsdon (Armidale) for swimming, Leslie Cuthel (Moree) Athletics, Alan Ross (Armidale) Athletics, Mark Stone (Tamworth) BMX, Simon Hood (Tamworth) Cricket Umpiring and officiating and Mathew Warden (Tamworth) Cricket officiating and administration.

After accepting their scholarships an induction function will be held at the Narrabri RSL club on the 20th April. Financial scholarships to the value of $750 and $500 depending on their level of representation will be presented at the function. Further assistance via the Academy will then be provided over the next 12 months including the NIAS RACE education programs and fitness testing opportunities.

Ends.
