Age

There is no age limit for this program


Squad

Up to 15 regional based athletes may be offered a scholarship based on their recent performances, ranking and recommendations from respective state sporting organisations. 


Program year

Scholarship period July 2009 to November 2010


Program Outcomes

Lonestar AWD athletes receive individual cash grants and support. These Scholarships are designed to assist athletes defray the costs of training and competing at a high level of such as state and national representation.

Selection Process

Up to 15 regional based athletes may be offered a scholarship based on their recent performances, ranking and recommendations from respective regional/state sporting organisations. Applications will be assessed by the NIAS Lonestar AWD selection panel. Personal interviews may be called for. 


Selection Criteria

-Athletes may be involved in an individual or team sport.
-Athletes who are eligible to apply for a NIAS squad based program during 2009 are ineligible.
-Scholarships will be awarded based on the most recent performances by the athlete at regional age level or equivalent.
-An athlete can only have a "Lonestar AWD" Scholarship for 2 years.
-Athlete must be a member of a regional and or state sporting body or be prepared to join.
-The scholarship funds and support service entitlement will vary in accordance with the ranking of the athlete and the classification of the sport.


Scholarship conditions

-Be committed and prepared to work toward representing at the national and international level.          
-Live in the NIAS geographic area.          
-Be committed to a holistic approach to their development, both on and off the field.
-Comply with the training requirements of their sport as prescribed by nominated coaching staff and respond in a positive manner to any suggestion or criticism.          
-Maintain an appropriate performance standard to continue to receive a scholarship.          
-Behave and dress in a professional and dignified manner when representing the NIAS and its sponsors.          
-Wear the allocated Academy tracksuit and apparel when representing the Academy at media interviews, public relation activities, and sponsor functions and to acknowledge the NIAS sponsors at every opportunity.         
-Not take or use performance enhancing drugs, illegal drugs or participate in other doping activities prohibited by the NIAS.
-Maintain a journal of activities and maintain contact with the squad manager at least monthly via email.
-Complete a program assessment at the conclusion of Program.
-Attend Regional Athlete & Coach Education Program (RACE) 


Benefits

-Reimbursement grant of up to $500-00 pa towards expenses incurred in gaining access to higher quality competition, training, facility access & gym fees.
-Access to squad activities conducted by other regional academies of sport on a fostering basis, where available.
-Sports science support services.
-Education/personal development sessions (RACE )
-Clothing Package of Tracksuit, polo shirt, t-shirt, shorts and hat.
-Squad athletes have the option of purchasing additional clothing items.
-Media recognition and assistance with increasing the profile of individuals.
-Recognition of scholarship athletes at the Academy awards night.
