Who is Eligible
Male and Female athletes aged between 13-18 in 2013, live in the Northern Inland region, be a member of an affiliated club or association (or be prepared to join).
Up to 10 athletes Male and Female may be offered a place in the Triathlon Program based on past performance and or via talent identification processes.
Scholarship offered is from October 2012- April 2013 with the awards night in November 2013.
The skill program is designed to provide athletes with increased skills and education to better prepare them for selection into Regional and NSW squads.
Athletes will be assessed on the following at selection trials or via TID processes. Time Trials in discipline of Swim and Run may be undertaken. Athletes who possess strong skills and performance levels in either Swimming, Athletics (Middle/Long Distance) or Cross Country will be considered as Talent transfer athletes.
Subjectivity is an unavoidable element in all selections. Athletes who feel the selection criteria has not been adhered to should be aware that NIAS has a formal 'Appeals' process available.
The program has been developed in close consultation with Triathlon NSW and Triathlon Australia. Skill sessions and camps are held within the region throughout October to April. The skills program follows a structured approach concentrating on a range of individual skills and development. Sessions will be based around regional club competitions. Training sessions will be held in conjunction with the club competitions so to support local clubs and increase the exposure of Triathlon as a Sport. Communication with NIAS Triathlon staff and your home coaches will be important to ensure you set a suitable program to further develop in Triathlon. From May-June athletes are required to attend the NIAS RACE program. This program covers education sessions on sport psychology, sports medicine, nutrition, public speaking, media training, financial fitness and career skills.

♦ Up to 4 regional training days.
♦ Lifeskills RACE Program-Two 3 hr workshops including dinner for athlete and one parent.
♦ NIAS merchandise- training shirt, polo, shorts, cap, swim cap and socks. Additional items available for purchase.
♦ Sport Science fitness testing and support.
♦ 1 Ticket to annual awards night.
♦ Travel Assistance to attend NIAS regional training sessions and camps.
♦ Financial assistance if selected into state team.
♦ Fully Paid Athlete Levy scholarships due to financial hardship available.
♦ Communicate with NIAS and coaching staff as required.
♦ Triathlon is no 1 priority sport while on scholarship.
♦ Be committed to a holistic approach to their development, both on and off the field.
♦ Comply with the training requirements and respond in a positive manner to any suggestion or criticism.
♦ Maintain an appropriate performance standard to continue to receive a scholarship.
♦ Behave and dress in a professional and dignified manner when representing the NIAS and its sponsors.
♦ Wear Academy apparel when representing the Academy at events.
♦ Make yourself available (within reason) to sponsors and the media for promotional purposes.
♦ Adhere to NIAS anti-Doping policy.
