2010 Calala Inn Swimming Program

Who is Eligible For the silver squad athletes should be turning 13-18 in 2010, for Bronze squad turning 9-12 in 2010, and Maroon squad turning 9-16yrs in 2010, reside in the Northern Inland region and be a member of an affiliated club or association (or be prepared to join).
Selection Process Approximately 10 male and female athletes will be offered a place in the Silver Swimming Program based on performances over the past 12 months or via talent identification processes. An additional 15 athletes may also be selected for the Bronze and Maroon development squad. (Please note Bronze & Maroon athletes will be invited to selected training days). Selection will also be based on your attitude and commitment to Swimming. The squad will not exceed 25 athletes.
Program year Scholarship offered is for the period, May to November 2010
Program Outcomes The skill program is designed to provide athletes with increased skills and education to better prepare them for selection into Regional and NSW squads.
Selection Criteria

To be selected for the upcoming year, swimmers must complete the following criteria:
Maroon Squad: Attended NSW Country Swimming 9-16yrs Championships (not school) in the year of submission of application OR gain a country qualifying time prior to the 2010 NSW Country Long Course Championships (February 2010). Long course and short course converted times will be accepted.
Bronze Squad: Attended State NSW Swimming 9-12yrs Championships (not school) in the January (2010) prior to submission of application OR gain a state qualifying time for the NSW state long course Championships (Jan 2010). Long course and short course converted times will
be accepted.
Silver Squad: Attended State Age 13-18yrs Championships in the January (2010) prior to submission of application OR gain a state qualifying time for the NSW state long course Championships (January 2010). Long course and short course converted times will be accepted.
Please note: National Qualifiers are now supported by By Swimming NSW programs.

Appeals Subjectivity is an unavoidable element in all selections. Athletes who feel the selection criteria has not been adhered to should be aware that NIAS has a formal 'Appeals' process available.
Program content The program has been developed in close consultation with Swimming NSW.  Skill sessions and camps are held within the region throughout May to November. The skills program follows a structured approach concentrating on a range of individual skills and development. Fitness sessions focus on the importance of building core strength to improve posture, balance and technique.  From July- August players are required to attend the NIAS RACE program. This program covers education sessions on sport psychology, sports medicine, nutrition, public speaking, media training, sun protection and career skills.

♦ 1 Ticket to annual awards night.
♦ Travel Assistance to attend NIAS regional training sessions and camps.
♦ Financial assistance if selected into state team.
♦ Fully Paid Athlete Levy scholarships due to financial hardship available.
Athlete Commitments

♦ Attend all program activities.
♦ Swimming is no 1 priority sport while on scholarship.
♦ Be committed to a holistic approach to their development, both on and off the field.
♦ Comply with the training requirements and respond in a positive manner to any suggestion or criticism.
♦ Maintain an appropriate performance standard to continue to receive a scholarship.
♦ Behave and dress in a professional and dignified manner when representing the NIAS and its sponsors.
♦ Wear Academy apparel when representing the Academy at events.
♦ Make yourself available (within reason) to sponsors and the media for promotional purposes.
♦ Adhere to NIAS anti-Doping policy.
♦ Maintain communication with NIAS and coaching staff as required.

Cost

A levy of Approximately $350.00 (GST Incl) is applicable to successful athletes in Silver, and $100.00 for Bronze & Maroon and assists in covering the costs of clothing, administration, accommodation, sports science support, venue hire, and coaching fees. (Total value of program is $1500 per Athlete.)Please note Bronze & Maroon Athletes is a Development squad, and will not be on Scholarship, however development opportunities are provided.
