2013 Calala Inn Swimming Program

Who is Eligible

- Swimming NSW B squad athletes turning 13-18 in 2013 with State Age qualifying times.
- Swimming NSW C squad athletes turning 9-12 in 2013 with State Age qualifying times.
- Swimming NSW D Squad athletes turning 9-16 in 2013 with Country Qualifying times.
Athletes must also reside in the New England and North West Swimming region and be a member of an affiliated club or association (or be prepared to join).

Selection Process Athletes will be offered a place in the appropriate Swimming Program based on performances over the past 12 months 
Program year Scholarship offered is for the period, April to November 2013
Program Outcomes Program Outcomes The skill program is designed to provide athletes with increased skills and education to better prepare them for selection into Regional and NSW squads. 
Selection Criteria

To be selected for the 2013 program selection will be based on the following criteria as per the Swimming NSW pathway. Athletes must fit into one of the following three categories:
- Swimming NSW B squad athletes turning 13-18 in 2013 with State Age qualifying times.
- Swimming NSW C squad athletes turning 9-12 in 2013 with State Age qualifying times.
- Swimming NSW D Squad athletes turning 9-16 in 2013 with Country qualifying times.
Athlete must achieve a SNSW Summer State/Country Championship qualifying time by the close of entries to the summer SNSW State Age Championships. Athletes with SNSW Winter State/Country Championship qualifying times may be considered. To confirm qualifying times, Swimming New England/North West will provide a list to NIAS of eligible swimmers and their qualifying times for all respective squad.

Appeals Subjectivity is an unavoidable element in all selections. Athletes who feel the selection criteria has not been adhered to should be aware that NIAS has a formal 'Appeals' process available.
Development Curriculum The program has been developed in close consultation with Swimming New England/North West and Swimming NSW.  Throughout the 2013 program athletes will receive the following:
- Explanation of the swimming pathway.
- Goal Setting.
- Importance of stretching (both static and dynamic).
- Warm up and Warm down procedures.
- Swim meet preparation (including dealing with nerves, nutrition and packing all relevant gear)
- Nutritional requirements through the Regional Athlete and Coach Education (RACE) program.
- Dealing with pressure situations, also covered in RACE workshops.
- Rewards and Recognition.
- Compete at an out of area Carnival (Port Macquarie is the proposed carnival and the NSW development meet is another available option for the C Squad.
- Skills based pool sessions (Under water video, Turns, Starts, and Finishes).

♦  1 Ticket to annual awards night.
♦  Travel Assistance to attend NIAS regional training sessions and camps. (Conditions apply)
♦  Financial assistance if selected into state team.
♦  Fully Paid Athlete Levy scholarships available to athletes suffering from financial hardship
Athlete Commitments

♦  Attend all program activities.
♦  Swimming is no 1 priority sport while on scholarship.
♦  Be committed to a holistic approach to their development, both in and out of the water.
♦  Comply with the training requirements and respond in a positive manner to any suggestion or criticism.
♦  Maintain an appropriate performance standard to continue to receive a scholarship.
♦  Behave and dress in a professional and dignified manner when representing the NIAS and its sponsors.
♦  Wear Academy apparel when representing the Academy at events.
♦  Make yourself available (within reason) to sponsors and the media for promotional purposes.
♦  Adhere to NIAS anti-Doping policy. 
♦  Maintain communication with NIAS and coaching staff as required.

Squad Requirements In applying for a squad position athletes are asked to attend their respective training days. C squad and D squad athletes 12 years and under will be invited to 4 regional training days. This does not include overnight camps. For the out of area competition the above mentioned athletes will need to be accompanied by parent/carer. Parents will need to provide their own accommodation and transport for the duration of the meet. All other athletes are invited to all sessions as per ‘Dates’ below.
Cost

A levy of Approximately $280.00 (GST Inc) is applicable to successful athletes in B and D squad athletes 13-16 years. The levy assists in covering the costs of clothing, administration, accommodation, sports science support, venue hire, and coaching fees. (Total value of program is $1500 per Athlete.)
C squad and D squad athletes 12 years and under, levy will be approximately $150 (GST Inc). The levy assists in covering the costs of clothing, administration, sports science support, venue hire, and coaching fees. (Total value of program is $1000 per Athlete.)
