NIAS UAA Indigenous Talent ID Day 2023 hailed a success!

More than 40 of the Northern Inland’s aspiring indigenous athletes headed to Moree last week, to attend the Northern Inland Academy of Sport’s UAA Indigenous Talent Identification Day in the hopes of joining the academy and accessing greater opportunities in sport.

It was a brilliant day at the Moree PCYC, filled with challenging and fun sporting activities, fitness testing and a showcase of our local indigenous sporting talent! Participants enjoyed an introduction to multiple sports, including netball, football (soccer) and rugby league, played games and participated in sport specific skills in a fun atmosphere to showcase their ability.

The UAA Indigenous Talent ID Day is designed for aspiring athletes wishing to advance their opportunities in sport. Talent ID is an attempt to identify people with specific skills, personal qualities and physical attributes that may lead them to become a high performing athlete.

On the day, there were quality coaches experienced in talent identification looking out for talented athletes. Those athletes identified will now be provided with an invitation to join the NIAS Sports Programs selection trials later in the year.

We have incredible talent within our region and it’s important that we provide the opportunities, pathways and access for our youth to thrive and transition to higher levels of competition and performance, and ultimately become better people and contribute to their community as a result.

NIAS is a community-based organisation dedicated to identifying regional talent and developing their potential, on and off the field.
