The Northern Inland Academy of Sport (NIAS) is an incorporated, autonomous, community based organization established in November 1992 to identify and prepare talented sportspeople in the Northern Inland region to reach their maximum potential, on and off the field!
Thank you Lunch for Local Supporters of Clubs NSW Academy Games (11-Jun-09)
A thank you lunch for local supporters and volunteers involved in the recent Clubs NSW Academy Games was held at the Armidale City Bowling Club on Wednesday the 10th June. At the lunch Executive Officer of NIAS Peter Annis-Brown acknowledged the support of organisations such as Armidale Regional Tourism, Sport UNE, NBN and local radio station FM100.3.
Dairy Farmers Quarterly Athlete. (14-May-09)
Courtney Byrnes from Glen Innes a member of the tier 1 NIAS Netball Squad is the winner of this quarters Dairy Farmers award. Courtney wins her award due to her overall commitment to her Netball and the NIAS program. She has been selected into the Australian Indigenous Schools team and travels to Auckland NZ next month to compete. Congratulations Courtney.
New Board Members for NIAS (14-May-09)
NIAS held its 2008 AGM in early April where a number of changes the NIAS board occurred. Rob Lewis who has been a board member since NIAS started in 1992 stepped down and Peter Burke and Trish Thornberry did not seek re-election.
Clubs NSW Academy Games hailed a success (14-May-09)
With the dust settling on the 2009 Clubs NSW Academy Games which was hosted by NIAS last month in Armidale feedback from the Armidale community and the participating academies has been very positive. NIAS is currently preparing a review and evaluation report, which will be presented to the regional academy network at an upcoming conference later this month. NIAS also has the hosting rights of the games for the next 2 years!
Inductions for 4 sports including New NIAS Cycling Program to be held this Weekend! (14-May-09)
This Saturday the 16th May at Oxley High School Tamworth, four NIAS Sports, Touch, Tennis, Swimming and Cycling will hold their inductions for the 2009 athlete intake. After the inductions from 1-4pm all athletes will then take part in the Country Energy “Energise” Fitness testing program at Oxley High.
