Introducing former NIAS athlete and BMX racer – Jack Davis! Jack had an outstanding run while at NIAS, competing in the BMX world championships in 2017 (placing fourth), 2018 and again in 2019!
nnHow did NIAS play a part in your sporting journey?
nBeing apart of the NIAS Lonestar Program, I received not only financial support each year, but I was
able to access everything NIAS had to offer including training/testing days, and accessing resources
such as sports psychologists and dietitians.
What inspired you to be an elite athlete?
nI love my sport of BMX racing. Growing up I idolised the pro BMX racers who lived and raced full time
in the US… so I worked as hard as I could to make that happen.
What superstitions do you have?
nNever put new shoes on a table.
nWhat advice would you give a young aspiring rural athlete?
nWork hard. Trust the process. Keep showing up.
nWhat level of commitment and discipline does it take to be a professional athlete?
nIt takes the highest level. Being an athlete is a job that you never take a day off from. Itu2019s 24/7 365. You have
to love what you do and work hard everyday to make small improvements to in the end, make big improvements.
Can you share one special NIAS memory or moment?
nOne special NIAS memory was winning the Scott Campbell Memorial Award! Pictured below.
nIs there a particular NIAS coach, volunteer or program personnel who stands out/inspired you?
nMarni Turner (sports psychologist). I got connected with Marni through NIAS and still use her to this day. Iu2019ve worked with Marni for five years now.
